Why is it Important to Set Goals

Passing your day without plans or goals in your mind might result in watching more TV than you should watch, playing silly games all the day just to overcome your boredom, or simply following other’s plans.

All this time will increase your disappointment when you will notice that you haven’t done any progress anywhere. That’s why is very important to have clear goals and plans for each day of your life.

Some people think that they have set goals, so the reason why they waste their time isn’t the lack of goals, but the fact that they have not the motivation to work toward those goals. And I add: or they didn’t set the right goals, in the right way.

The importance of goal setting

Before I show you what are the right goals and the right ways to set them, let me show you first why is it important to set goals.

When you have some clear goals in each area of your life, you will progress much more than if you don’t have any goal. This happens for a simple reason, your goals will enable you to stay focused, so you will not waste your efforts in many useless directions.

Except this fact, goals can increase your motivation to try harder too, because you will feel you are achieving something with each day of your work, regardless of how small that achievement will look to you.

How to set goals the right way

If you don’t set the right goals, your mind will do any trick to keep you far from working for them, just because it has realized that they are not really your goals, but you have mistakenly accepted them as yours to please someone, or you were so affected by what others think.

So before you plan what to do, make sure you will get something you are really in need for. Find your passion, find out what will recruit your thoughts and your emotions totally and go for it because that’s the path you will be able to follow for a long time.

Create challenging goals for yourself and not easy ones like earning $10.000 for 100 years.

Make your goal a bit harder than what reality will let you to achieve. So it will be challenging and at the same time it won’t look impossible, as a result you will feel motivated to go for it everyday.

Turn them into daily goals

Which goal will motivate you to work more and to be more focused, earning $40.000 a year, or earning $100 a day? Even though these are both the same, the daily version of your goals will appear easier and will trigger your desire to work everyday.

The level of success is the same, but when you measure your success daily you will know better the value of one day that you would spent for nothing without feeling bothered if you were caring only about your yearly goal.

Finally, you should allow yourself to have some days off when you need them. Even if you are the most passionate person about your work, sometimes you will feel fed up with it. In order to feel charged again you need to do something different, have a rest or some fun. This is normal and necessary to keep yourself motivated to achieve your goals.
